THE CORE

CORE LOCATED BELOW THE BASEBALL DIAMOND AND PROTECTED BY VOIDS AT ALL TIMES. ACCESS TO CORE PROPER HAS BEEN PROHIBITED. CORE PRODUCES INTENSE RADIATION. HAZMAT SUITS REQUIRED WHEN BELOW THE DIAMOND. THE ONLY THING THE PUBLIC HAS BEEN ALLOWED TO SEE IS A CLOCK THAT READS THE CURRENT DATE AND TIME. UNKNOWN WHAT THIS CLOCK'S PURPOSE IS- HOWEVER, IT APPEARS TO HAVE AN EFFECT ON THE ENTIRE ISLAND; WHEN RESET BY A NEWCOMER ACCIDENTALLY, IT CAUSED A LOOP IN TIME-SPACE. MAKES SENSE- IF THE CORE IS REACHING OUT OVER VARIOUS SPACES AND TIMES, THEN CLEARLY AN OVERLOAD OF THE SYSTEM COULD BACKFIRE ON THE ISLAND.

RESPONDS TO MANMADE STIMULI (SEE: TIME LOOP CAUSED BY NEWCOMER- SOME SORT OF LIVING COMPUTER VIRUS??). CORE IS LIKELY A NATURAL STRUCTURE. CORE MOST ACTIVE EVERY OTHER MONTH- REPORTS SAY IT HAS DECREASED ACTIVITY SIGNIFICANTLY OVER THE PAST YEAR, YET HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ARRIVE EVERY FLUX.

NEWCOMERS CAN RETURN TO THE ISLAND EVEN AFTER DEATH- THE PULL CALLS THEM BACK TO THEIR WORLDS WITH NO LOST TIME AND THEN DROPS THEM BACK AT THE BASEBALL DIAMOND AFTER A TIME- AN AFFECT OF THE CORE ON THOSE WITH TRACES OF RADIATION ON THEM? THIS DOES NOT AFFECT PEOPLE NATIVE TO THE ISLAND.

THE DARKNESS

Unknown if connected to the Core. No concrete facts, only theories. Is heralded by the Sirens every night, but reports have said that it has occurred in the daytime and the sirens have malfunctioned. Could be connected to the lighthouse. Are the Core and the Darkness related or merely existing in the same space?

The Darkness does not attack those with traces of Core radiation more than natives.

Darkness is characterized by a foul smell, a feel of rot and decay, and monsters of various types. It is generally to be avoided at all costs.

Washu is a resident of Nueva Los Noches, along with Szayel, Nelliel, and Luppi. Using the reiatsu, she's capable of maintaining a decent hold on a small margin of pseudo-space to house her lab. While the "front door" is technically Szayel's closet, the lab is actually outside the dimensional sphere that houses the island. Because of the Core's fluctuations, the hold on another dimension is tenuous and thus Washu is extremely reliant on the reiatsu to keep it functional- if it goes, her lab goes with it and so does any research and data not recorded to her laptop.

As stated, the lab's front door is Szayel's closet- the only people who can safely enter and exit through that door are the residents or anyone who happens to be immune to the effects of the spiritual energy. There's also a "back door" located inside a closet in Washu's office at SPU, which allows people to enter the lab at Washu's bequest without being harmed- however, due to the pressure, there's concern of humans getting sick from spending too much time inside it. These two doorways between her lab allow her to commute between work and Los Noches freely.

The lab is much smaller than she's accustomed to- roughly the size of a small house- and contains only what Washu's managed to build and find for herself, which isn't much. Washu can't just manifest materials out of nowhere, but she can change the scenery of the lab. Occasionally, it'll look like a relaxing lounge with reflecting pools and plant life and other times it'll look like the cold metal structure you'd associate with labs.

Character Information

General
Canon Source: Tenchi Muyo Ryo-Ohki OAV
Canon Format: Anime
Character's Name: Washu Hakubi
Character's Age: 20,000 in this form, although physically twelve by choice. She's also actually billions of years old, being one of the supreme deities of the universe, but... That's not something she broadcasts.
Conditional: If your character is 13 years of age or under, please clarify how they will be played.

What form will your character's NV take? Her holographic laptop, seen here. It can be summoned with just a thought and can do pretty much... Anything technical within the realm of anime science (so pretty much anything), but if she encounters a Null or a Void, the computer's functions will be limited to just video/text/voice messaging like any NV.

Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Not counting the general powers of a goddess, which Washu doesn't possess when not in contact with her gems, Washu is... Well, she's kind of a godmod even without the whole goddess reveal.

She has some telepathic abilities- at first believed to only be a telepathic bond shared with her "daughter" Ryoko, but it's revealed in the third part of the OAV that she can read minds, as she was capable of reading Nobuyuki's mind long enough to tell him to "stop internal monologuing." This is the only time she displays this particular power with anyone other than Ryoko, however, which may be because reading minds is "too easy." Or maybe because it was a gag. Who knows?

That's the general rule when it comes to Washu and her abilities, while her powers are great, she prefers to not use them unless she absolutely has to. She prefers science and reason. However, in a pinch, she's capable of completely obliterating monsters with just a flick of her fingers, zap things out of people's hands and make stone statues crumble with a touch. She can summon an energy saber, phase-shift through solid objects, fly, teleport, alter her form, create matter out seemingly nothing (there's likely some scientific explanation in her mind, but whatever, dude), and can create sub-space "pocket dimensions"- a prime example is her massive lab, which is located in a closet in the Masaki household and is actually several planets connected through dimensional "doors"- and alter space and time.

She's also a genius, capable of creating extremely complex technology, having made Ryoko, her ship Ryo-Ohki, and Kagato's supremely advanced ship, the Souja. Given the right materials, some time, and a little bit of power, she can create anything she pleases, but since she's cut off from the dimensions and universes she's accustomed to, she'll have to resort to building shit the old-fashioned way and nothing overly complex or world-destroying. Really.

She can also manifest a holographic laptop that she does all of her work on wherever she goes. Yeeeep.
It's revealed in the third part of the OAV that she's a skilled melee fighter, due to the fact that the Royal Space Academy used a special form of it to settle debates. Although we never see what the style looks like, Washu is capable of taking out thugs twice her size with absolutely no effort doing it.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? HAHAHAHA. SEE GODMOD.
Weapons: Her brain. No. Really.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: HERE
Point in Canon: The end of the second OAV, after successfully defeating Dr. Clay and merging Ryoko with her clone Zero.
Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history: N/A

Character Personality: Washu is that bizarre mix of being completely uncomplicated with an extremely complicated candy center. At first glance, she is what she is- an unhindered, uninhibited, and completely tactless scientific genius. She has no qualms at getting in people's space, stealing genetic samples for her experiments (either by pulling hair out or more... Convaluted means- she coerces Tenchi into her lab and hooks him up to machines to take samples from him, after becoming fascinated by his manifestation of Light Hawk Wings, for example), and openly admitting that she's doing all of this in the name of science. She's blunt to a fault, never sugarcoats anything, and when she knows a situation is bad, she will flat out tell you so. Generally, however, she always has a plan to fix things, so even as she says you're screwed, she's working on a plan to fix it. However, she can also keep quiet when she suspects something is amiss and while she's generally the first to figure out a trick, she's the last to point it out, usually preferring to see it run its course out of scientific curiosity- Washu is generally motivated by that, in all respects.

She isn't to be trifled with- her ego might be massive, but she is legitimate in her claims of being a brilliant scientist. In fact, none of her experiments malfunction or fail to work unless an outside force causes them to, much to her annoyance. She's a brilliant mind, capable of working through almost any problem critically and analytically. To go with that, she's generally calm in tense situations, usually thinking up a plan of action while everyone else panics. She only really panics, herself, when she doesn't have time to think or things start spiralling out of control or someone gets the upper hand on her.

She's outspoken and loud, generally the first person to note things that other people would keep quiet about out of politeness, such as commenting on Ryoko's breasts sagging. While occasionally formal to superiors, such as Juraian royalty, it's more professional courtesy than general politeness- although it's worthy of note that she bullies Ayeka and Sasami much less than she bullies the other girls- usually only teasing Ayeka lightly to provoke her temper or smacking her down when she and Ryoko get too violent. However, despite her student Kagato's utter betrayal of her and his abuse of Ryoko, she is extremely polite and gentle to him when speaking to him in person, asking him politely to release her and Ryoko and promising to "let him go free" if he does. This indicates the fact that she was, at one point, extremely close to Kagato and even after his death, she speaks of his work with a lot of respect, despite how the man treated her. This indicates that Washu doesn't hold grudges and shows respect for those who deserve it, even if they're evil- that doesn't mean she won't challenge them, but she will show them courtesy.

Despite the fact that she insists on being called "Little Washu" and has many characteristics of a child, Washu is, in fact, the most mature of the girls and is at the head of the house's pecking order if only because she's the only one with even a smidge of competence in some matters. However, that doesn't mean she isn't immature- she is extremely so. She often won't take matters seriously and the more people want her to be serious, the more teasing and flippant she gets- this is especially true when she's around Dr. Clay. She's occasionally temperamental, more prone to agitation and exasperation than physical violence and people who don't understand her or listen to her tend to get the short end of her patience- and she is patient, for the most part. How much she can take is generally related to how much people annoy her or refuse to listen to her or make her repeat herself.

However, she is not a heartless academic or the standard of "mad scientist" that she presents herself to be. She's extremely compassionate and although she abuses and teases Ryoko, all while trying to be the worst mother ever to her, she truly loves her daughter- the fact that she thinks of her as a daughter at all is testament to that. She often has a funny way of showing it, even reacting casually when Dr. Clay reveals he's holding Ryoko captive and saying that "At least it wasn't Ayeka," indicating to Clay that she's less concerned about Ryoko and more concerned about him inciting a galactic incident by abducting Juraian royalty. However, when Clay actually hurts Ryoko's clone Zero in front of her, she gets violently angry at him. She loves her work and everything she does, she does with passion. She treats Ryo-Ohki like part of her family, even if she's just a spaceship in the form of a cute rabbit-cat hybrid. She throws this fact in Clay's face, claiming that he's an idiot for assuming she ruined his life at the Academy and that the reason she was more popular and got the Director's position was because she loved her work and the people she worked with and Clay was heartless and avoidant and was thus driven out. She has zero tolerance for people who don't love or appreciate their work and who only seem to do what they do for the fame and glory and not for the good it can do. She even goes so far as to admit that she would never mass produce Ryo-Ohki or create another Ryoko, because it would cheapen her affection for them. That doesn't mean she's not capable of and will create weapons of mass destruction if she wants- she just has no desire to see them used. She just enjoys the thrill of creating and is passionately neutral on political matters.

Despite her skewed mother-daughter relationship with Ryoko, Washu is actually extremely maternal, shown in one episode to be capable and nurturing to a baby that Tenchi was asked to take care of. It's revealed that she had a child of her own once, but because the father was a man of nobility and she was a poor orphan with no status, they baby was taken from her. This caused her to revert to her "child" persona, because she didn't want to be an adult, because adults worried about things like that and she had no interest in them. She has a knowledge of politics and the general scheme of how things work in the galaxy, but she doesn't seem to have much interest in involving herself in it.

She's simultaneously introverted and extroverted, spending lengthy amounts of time alone in her lab and getting annoyed when she's disturbed without her permission, while still having time to eat dinner or watch soap operas or visit hot springs with the other girls. She especially gets sheer delight out of torturing Ryoko and Ayeka by flirting with Tenchi, although she has no real sexual interest in him- she just enjoys getting Ryoko's goat and making Tenchi uncomfortable, going as far as calling him her "little guinea pig." When Clay comments on this, however, Washu just says that she likes Tenchi and that just because she calls him her little guinea pig, it doesn't mean she thinks he's a science experiment, even if she treats him like one sometimes.

As of her current canon point, Washu has absolutely no memory of being a goddess or any actual memories of her sister Tokimi (she knows of Tsunami, but only in the form of the Juraian tree), although this is difficult to assume- she taunts Clay when he tells her he's taking her to Tokimi by saying she has no idea what he's talking about, even though Clay is convinced she should know- it's never made clear whether Washu was annoying him or if she really did know and didn't want to admit it. In the third OAV, when Washu manifests as a goddess, she tells everyone to get away, as if she knew what was going to happen and, afterwards, retains all her memories of being a goddess, but it's still not really clear whether Washu just sensed that something was about to happen and reacted accordingly or if she willfully summoned her goddess form. For the sake of this, I'm playing it as she is utterly unaware, especially due to the absence of her gems.
Conditional: Personality development in previous game: N/A
Character Plans: Washu will be dedicated to finding out what the Core does and reversing it and I feel with her intelligence, her general disregard for anyone below her intelligence and her experience in the fields of dimensional travel, she'll likely make herself an enemy of people like SERO who would either want her brain, her research, or her head on a pike.... Plus, she's hilarious and fun.

Appearance/PB: A pseudo loli with crab hair.

Writing Samples

First Person Sample [This is no accidental feed you're seeing. Oh no, this is deliberate. The adolescent girl onscreen is typing furiously, so clearly you're seeing her broadcasting from a computer. Behind her are the familiar sights of SERO personnel and their ilk. She seems unperturbed by them. They seem pretty weirded out by her. I mean, who just randomly appears some place, busts out a holographic computer and starts doing scans like this is normal.]

Huh. It looks like my systems have already been re-calibrated to this universe. Now to just scan for the anomaly that caused this- [There's a ping] Well now. We seem to be right on top of it.

[Someone grabs her shoulder and she flicks it off.] Settle down now. I'll be finished in a minute. Oh. Hold on! [She jumps up and yanks a hair off the man's head and giggles estactically.] Thank you for your contribution to my research.

[There's some maddening beeping going on from the computer and suddenly she looks panicked, her glee cut short.] What?! How can it be overloading my systems? Nothing does that! [She glares back at the SERO personnel.] Okay, which one of you idiots can explain this?

[The feed cuts off. A few minutes later, it pops back on, showing a different location. Washu looks huffy. Obviously, things did not go well.] Those amatuers. Don't they know who I am?

Third Person Sample Building a subspace lab in the closet of the starter apartments turned out to be harder than Washu anticipated. The Juraian energies surrounding the Masaki house and shrine made them ideal for powering her systems, but being close to the Core had the opposite effect. Fluctuations in the Core caused the opposite effect and it was extremely annoying when your little piece of subspace imploded upon itself every time someone new arrived.

Washu crashed out of the closet, panting as the subspace fell apart unexpectedly, rendering her experiments useless, nearly taking her down with it, and reducing the closet to exactly what it was meant to be. She growled at the open door as if the empty closet was mocking her, and tugged at her hair.

"Argh! That's the fourth time this week!" She wailed, following it up with another frustrated growl. Without giving into her desire to throw a tantrum- because that wouldn't get anything done- she got up onto her knees and summoned her computer, her calm and zen returned in the face of finding a scientific solution to her problem. "Hm. There has to be a source of energy around here far enough from the Core I can use. Huh?"

Something pinged on the little map on the screen. She leaned closer and zoomed in, clicked a few buttons to get a decent scan going, and....

"Hah! That's perfect!" She exclaimed with delight, grinning wickedly.
